We all love our decks and outside living areas, however if either of these areas is higher than a couple of steps off the ground we should introduce some form of a barrier. There are heights set down by your local authority on how high a deck can legally be off the ground without a handrail or barrier.

A well-designed hand rail can be a huge plus when designing your deck or outside living area. With the use of a flat surface designed into a handrail it's a great spot to support glasses or plates. Allowing people to spread out and not having to rely on tables. Stainless wire has become very popular in giving your deck a feeling of openness. It also has a dual purpose in creating a fish tank affect and not giving you much privacy on those lazy Sunday mornings when you just want to sit there and read the paper.

Often the best view lies above the height of the handrail so consider designing something a little bit more private so that you can block out people's backyards and leave you with that nice private area
